The Pledge

I don’t know what to say,
Don’t know how to tell you.
But what I feel has grown
Since the moment I first met you.

Never will I lie to you,
I’ll not hide joy nor tears.
I want you to know everything
All my hopes and fears.

I’ve never felt this way before,
I’ve not known what to do.
But now I’m sure of what I feel,
So I make this pledge to you:

I’ll be there to lend an ear
When you’re feeling down.
I’ll be there to comfort you
When loneliness abounds.

I’ll be there to catch you
If ever you should fall.
I’ll drop anything else and
Come running if you call.

I’ll be there to give you strength
When all hope is gone,
Or just to be a shoulder
You can lay your head upon.

I’ll be there to protect you
And give you a hand.
I’ll be there to save you –
I’ll be there till the end.

And if you just need someone
To sit with you a while,
I’m all too glad to be there
And sit by you with a smile.

You said that your dark horse
Would one day set you free.
I only pray the one
Who fills that spot…is me.
